A take on Affluenza kid
BY: MARIA SANCHEZ ,12
It is completely ridiculous because if a kid who isn't wealthy gets in trouble it is automatically assumed that he is bad and should get the maximum punishment. This case clearly illustrates that money talks and if you're wealthy enough you pretty much can get away with breaking the law.
But the story isn’t over.
On December 2nd 2015 a video of Ethan at a party, where alcohol was present was posed online for the Tarrant County DA and all the world to see. The video shows that Ethan clearly doesn't understand that 10 years of probation is the consequence he got for killing four people back in 2013.
Keep in mind that he is no stranger to alcohol and that the pattern he continuously makes shows that he's a danger to society and should've served time to better understand that what he did was wrong.
On December 11, 2015, Ethan Couch was listed in the National fugitive database due to not checking in with his probation officer.
Authorities believe that as prosecutors investigated whether or not he violated probation, he and his mother fled to Puerto Vallarta where they were found byMexican authorities on December 28.
This is not a perfect family. Fred Couch, father of Ethan, has been arrested for theft, evading arrest, assault, and drunk driving. Tonya Couch has been arrested for drunk and impaired driving, and forcing another driver off of the road and both have been arrested for driving without a license, and passing bad checks.
If you ask me this family was doomed from the beginning. They have spoiled Ethan with everything he could ever want and that has resulted in the way he thinks and in the things he chooses to do. They have taught him that money can not only buy you happiness but can also get you out of trouble if need be.
Since then Ethan has remained behind bars in Mexico as US officials try to extradite him. Tonya Couch has been deported back to Texas and detained in the Tarrant County jail until she made bail was released on January 12, 2015 with a GPS tracker and briefed on the conditions of her release.
This case is as frustrating as trying to figure out if the word Affluenza is a real term or not. The injustice here will be forever and the harsh reality is that this will continue to happen if we as a people keep letting it happen.
