Authentic Mexican food for cheap

Zuzu is a Tex-Mex restaurant located in Lakewood off of Mockingbird and Abrams. They serve a variety of food with many low carb, vegetarian, and budget friendly options.

The atmosphere at Zuzu has an authentic Mexican feel, with bright yellow walls and colorful tiles. The inside area is a relatively small space with about 10 tables in one big room. It is set up much like a fast food restaurant, where you get your own drinks from the fountain. Beside the drinks, there's a salsa bar that has regular and mild red salsa and green salsa (which is my personal favorite).

I always order a bowl of queso as an appetizer. Generally for my meal, I get chicken quesadillas from the kids menu because it's a smaller but still filling portion. The quesadillas are simple, just cheese and chicken in your option of a flour or corn tortilla. It comes with Spanish rice and black beans in a taco shell bowl.

Zuzu also has a value menu which consists of tacos, burritos, flautas, and quesadillas. For about the same price as Taco Bell, you get more authentic food, and bigger portions.

For a healthier option, I would recommend their Grilled Chicken Salad. This salad contains romain lettuce, chicken, corn, and avocado, with a rosemary vinegarette dressing. The regular size is a perfectly filling amount and is only $7.50.

Overall, Zuzu is great place for everyone because of their great variety of food at a low price
