Honoring Our Heroes

By: Alexandra Chheng, 11

November 11th is a day of honor. It’s a day to remember and celebrate the service of all U.S. military veterans. 52 Bryan Adams JROTC cadets, along with the Belles and BAnd, went downtown to participate in this year’s annual Dallas Veterans Day Parade to honor veterans who serve and have served for our country.

Cadets took the time to come after school and practiced marching to prepare for the parade because they know it holds a great significance for many Americans. November 11th was originally a day to commemorate the end of World War I and the soldiers who died in that war, which took place on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month - Armistice Day. Now, Veterans Day recognizes every veteran who serves and has served.

“My experience was different from last year because I marched with different people. I was nervous because I didn’t want to mess up. I also had the opportunity to meet amazing veterans afterwards,” said Cadet Mariana Sierra, 12.
