Senior Vanessa Mondragon attended the Texas Dance Educator’s Association Convention in The Woodlands, Texas on January 6-9. She was the only dancer from Dallas ISD to perform. Vanessa was accepted to the Texas All State Dance Team after taking classes from professional dancers and choreographers. She also learned technique progressions and dance conditioning.

Vanessa got to meet girls from all over the state during her attendance at the Convention.

“It was an honor to meet girls from all over Texas because they have the same passion for dance that I do,” she said.

The choreographers taught the attendees how to dance jazz, contemporary, hip-hop and Bollywood. Bollywood dance is a fusion of traditional and classical Indian dances with the influence of some jazz, hip-hop and modern dance.

“The choreographers were friendly and but many of the routines were difficult,” she said.

She said she was a little nervous but Vanessa ended up performing in front of over 300 dance educators.

“Overall it was a great opportunity for me. The experience will help me in my future in dance,” she said.
