Improvements to infrastructure and facilities

This spring there will be some improvements in the BA infrastructure. Most changes are related to either safety on the grounds or for athletic purposes.

One of the most noticeable changes is the construction of a six foot fence around the entire campus. The previous fence was years old and was in desperate need of repair.

“We are getting a new fence for safety reasons. It was time for it to be replaced,” said Assistant Principal Mr. Michael Scallion.

The baseball diamond has a new fence, a new public address system, an expanded concession stand and a new windscreen.

“The old fence had curled ends and the balls were going under it. It was also hazardous for the players,” said Coach Allison.

The athletic programs are getting other new items like a scorer’s tables for the gym. The softball field is getting a new scoreboard and the football program is receiving a new film stand and auxiliary scoreboard. Both the large and small gyms received or are receiving shiny new floors and new Kelly green bleachers. The process of preparing a new surface for the track began in January.

By next year BA will have new electric heating and air conditioning systems. At the beginning of February students were surprised to see the ceiling in the math hall torn out. The process has begun to replace the lights and ducts for the new heating and air conditioning systems. For years teachers and students have complained about the inconsistent temperatures in the classrooms. Some classrooms are too cold or too hot. The boiler system has been in operation since the 1950s.

“The boiler leaked a lot and needed constant maintenance,” said Mr. Kastl. “Moving and improving is striving for excellence,” he said.
