Burgers by BA
Three local contenders
By ALEXIS TREJO, 12
So who loves burgers? Everyone does - unless something is wrong with you. There are countless national burger joints like McDonalds, Burger King and Jack in the Box and more. But what about the old school burger shops? There are still a few left around the BA neighborhood. Three well known locals are Diary-Ette, Keller’s and Flaming Burger. Who has the best hamburger and french fries? We hit the streets recently to find out.
First up is Diary-Ette. This is an old school drive-in burger shop on Ferguson Road, right around the corner from BA. It was established in the 50’s. It has a long history with BA students. In fact, the owner and founder is a BA alumni. This place is mostly famous for it's home made root beer served in frosted mugs. Now, to the burgers. It had an old school taste like plain but not boring. The size was not small but not jaw dropping big either. Now to the best friend of any burger, the fries. They were not that flavorful and could have used more salt but they are hand chopped and deep fried so that was a plus.
Our next stop was Keller’s on Garland Road. This is another old school shop but without the drive in lol. But it does have a drive through. The burgers here are relatively cheap but not “dollar menu” either, for the “can I hold a dollar” people, you know who you are. But the topic is the burgers and the fries. The burgers here are smaller than Diary-Ette and flaming burger but have a flavor you wouldn’t believe. After a bite you would really think this was the old school McDonalds. A small burger with a taste that comes from how the meat was hand pressed and the vegetables hand chopped. The fries are good but not the best in the world.
Last up is Flaming Burger! This is relatively a new burger shop that is also located on Garland Road. The price here is the most expensive out of all three but you get for what you pay for. Flaming Burgers are the biggest of the three and also the best tasting. Ditto for the fries. The burger is made when you order so it is guaranteed fresh with a heart skipping taste like no other. The fries are seasoned to have an extra quick shot of flavor so you know you will have a good side with your hamburger. There is not much more you could ask for in the All American burger and fries combo.
Of the three local BA burger joints we tried the best was found at Flaming Burger. If you don’t believe us go find out for yourself. You will not be disappointed!

Dairy-Ette, literally walking distance from BA, has been frequented by Cougars for over 50 years.
Kellers, a Dallas legend, at its Garland Road location you can dine in or dine out on the patio facing the street.
Flaming Burger is kind of off the beaten path, behind a McDonalds in a shopping center with Home Depot. Its worth the search.
