On April 16, 2016, the East Dallas community and Bryan Adams teamed up to clean up the creek, called Ash Creek, that runs behind the softball field. The creek has been a hangout spot for students for years and was completely trashed with debris, plastic bags, baseballs and even a mattress. After a complaint from a neighbor to Mr. Kastl about the condition of the creek, the Student Council decided to take action and clean up the creek.. During Destination Bryan Adams (DBA) meeting, at Hill Middle School, another concerned neighbor discussed the creek and its potential to be something beautiful.Student council set the date and asked for volunteers and donations.

Over 300 people signed up and BA organizations donated drinking water, trash bags and gloves. For the Love of the Lake, they are dedicated to preserving and enhancing the White Rock Lake, donated trash clamps and more and neighbors collected around 2,000 dollars for donations toward the creek cleanup project.Over 200 people volunteered to help restore the creek. One tent was set up for registration and another for first aid since poison ivy is common around the creek.Julissa Cardona, student council secretary said “it was filthy and dangerous” as she worked as a zone leader.

Twelve zones were set up across the entire creek area and Julissa was the leader for 10-12.

Throughout the day laughter could be heard from all 12 zones and it proved how this cleanup was not only tiring but entertaining.

Senior Efren Torres described the clean up and how entertaining it was. “Cleaning up the creek was fun and I hope as the years go by, the creek will continue to become better.”

Mr.Kastl and Sergeant Ordonez donated their truck to haul away multiple loads of trash. After 3 hours, the creek was transformedSenior Mario Mendez, JROTC and AVID, said "it went from getting caught on thorns and walking on garbage to seeing the actual soil."

Student Council hopes to make this cleanup an annual event.
