On Thursday December 11th FBLA had their usual meeting in the library annex. Officers were wearing their blue blazers as expected but it was not a normal meeting. Marvin Blakely, Senior Associate Director of High School Programs, came to speak with the members of the FBLA about programs offered at the Art Institute of Dallas.

Mr. Blakely described opportunities in fashion, graphic design, and media management among others. Some locations offer degrees that other locations don’t. The programs offered at the schools across the country vary.

Mr. Blakely also spoke about the importance of high school and higher education. He described the possibility of getting out and having a great career without going to a 4 year traditional college. Furthering your education and getting prepared for the “real world” is important to the FBLA organization.

“Mr. Blakely was very inspiring. As he presented information that offered a number of alternatives for our students that may not seek a traditional 4 year educations,” said FBLA Sponsor Mr. Johnson.

After the guest speaker was done Mr. Johnson talked about events that FBLA has coming up such as the Christmas Party on December 18th. They also picked names out of a hat for members participating in Secret Santa. Then the meeting ended with the members taking a group picture.

FBLA is an organization that molds students into business leaders. Pushing members to dress for success, wearing business attire from dress pants, tie, and the FBLA blazers. There are many levels of the organization from middle school to the professional level providing students leadership skills and preparing them for careers in business.  If you’re interested in FBLA you will find Mr. Johnson in room 249.
