Fifty Shades of Grey
by, ALEXIS LOUIS 12
The controversial film Fifty Shades of Grey was released February 13, 2015 based on the even more controversial book Fifty Shades of grey by E. L James. The book depicts a young woman, Anastasia Steele, who wishes to have a loving relationship with Christian Grey, a successful CEO of Grey Enterprises Holdings. Yet, their relationship arrangements exclude sentimental/emotional relations. Ana tries to adjust and accept this dominating sexual relationship, but eventually she grows uneasy and decides to part ways.
After hearing all the reviews and receiving multiple refers, I decided to purchase the book myself. In less than two school weeks I had finished the book. It was so engaging that I would choose to read the book over watching my favorite TV shows. When recently seeing a trailer for the movie I knew I had to see it!
After listening to my peers review, I began to second guess my choice on seeing the movie because of their harsh comments on the movie. Most of these critics came from those who had previously read the book. Many people criticize movies that originated from books because they don’t include all of the details from the book. Really they should realize that it’s impossible to include 592 pages of information into a movie, it would last forever! In my opinion the book fell very close too the book, and in many ways the movie was actually better than the book.
The movie, to me, was way more approachable than the book. The book had so many sex scene in it that it became a bit too sexual to enjoy. There were fewer sex scenes in the movie (thankfully) which helped the movie focus more on Ana’s and Christian’s mental relationship rather than their physical relationship. This helped the viewer’s understand Ana’s and Christian’s contrasting characters (one of the problems in the overall plot of the novel and film) better than the book. Also the film was very humorous. I was surprised by this because the book was serious. The jokes helped ease the awkwardness in some of the more “intense” scene and made me more comfortable.
Overall I give Fifty Shades of Grey two thumbs up and in my opinion and I believe the film was just as good as the movie if not better.
