2015 grad dies in freak accident

By TANIA ANCHETTA,12

Leandra Santoya, BA 2015 graduate, lost her life in an unusual accident while riding a horse.

The accident occurred on August 22, 2015, a few days before most students returned to school. This terrible event has affected not only her family but the whole Bryan Adams community. The news about the tragedy spread quickly around the halls of Bryan Adams and everyone was quick to be supportive of her family.

“I had her for two years in my class, she wasn’t just a student to me anymore, she was like family,” said Spanish teacher  Ms. Gomez.

Just like Ms. Gomez, many of her close friends had formed very strong bonds with her. She was easy to be around, always very social and positive minded.

Luis Moreno, also a 2015 graduate, was a close friend of Leandra.

“It’s still unreal to me, we shared many laughs and moments of happiness. It’s scary to think someone so close to you will no longer be there,” he said.

Leandra wasn’t just a sweet-hearted girl, but she was also intelligent and a good student.

“She always wanted to answer, she never had to be called on,” said economics teacher Dr.Curry.

Leandra was attending Carrington College in Mesquite with dreams of being successful in the medical field something she could’ve accomplished without a doubt.

Leandra’s teachers and friends all took their time to join together to say their last goodbyes the day of her funeral on August 27, 2015. Everyone said goodbye, but she still and never will be forgotten.
