Man's Best Friend
By: Kierra Ferrell
Dogs are much more than couch buddies they serve a purpose. Studies show that dogs increase our lifespan by 3 years. When we look into their big, sweet, and gullible eyes we can’t deny that they make us happy and bring us love and comfort. They help the blind get around, serve as guard dogs, and can be used as a therapy dog.
Although dogs bring joy to our lives they can be stressful at times. Don’t get me wrong I love my dog but the constant barking when the doorbell rings drives me crazy. I have learned that taking care of a dog is a lot of work to do. When I first met my dog I thought taking care of him would be a piece of cake but boy was I wrong. I had a lot of responsibilities when taking care of him. I had to clean up after him, feed him, bathe him, walk him 3 times a day, and have his food done before I left for school. I began to realize that taking care of a dog is exactly like taking care of a baby.
Even though there are lots of responsibilities for taking care of a dog there are plenty of fun times too. I depend heavily on my dog he makes me feel comfortable and secure. I feel as if I can talk to him and share secrets, he is like a best friend. Once you get a dog you build a relationship and a strong bond for the rest of your life.
