Sheer terror
A review of the movie Ouija
By ALEXIS LOUIS, 12
Most BA students spent their Halloween trying to rack up candy but I wanted to rack up some screams. I was very successful. I went to the new horror film, Ouija (wee-gee).
The movie is basically about a group of friends who confront their most terrifying fears when they awaken the dark powers of an ancient spirit board.
Lately there have been a lot of horror movies released that seem to be more of a comedy than a scary movie. Oujia was completely opposite!
The movie was uniquely acted compared to competing horror movies; making it more interesting than others. Unlike predictable horror movies, Ouija had lots of moments when you were caught off guard by the hauntings of playing on the deadly board. The fear factor was nonstop. There was never a moment where I was waiting for something scary to happen. The terror seemed to be never ending with no dull periods. It was astonishing that it is a PG-13 movie because of how frightening the film was to me and other viewers. The theater contained viewers of all ages and it terrified each and every one of us!
Outside of the horrifying nature of the movie it also included a great plot. The movie built up a lot of suspense while supplying a startling storyline. This surprised me because most horror movies tend to spend too much time making things fearful and forget to create a cohesive story.
Oujia includes a cast of unknown actors that were very pleasing to the eyes. It seems that most recent horror movies cast everyday actors that we are used to seeing. Having a new group of people helped me focus on the movie and less on critiquing them. The group was young and lively but they were very mature helping me relate to them as common people. This made the movie ten times more enjoyable then other horror movies.
Overall, I give Ouija a 10/10! There is no other scary movie out (so far) like it.
The expensive ticket was even worth it and if I wasn’t such a baby I would view the movie a second time hands down.
Catch it if you dare. It’s still playing at DFW theaters at this time.
