Although the BAnd director Dolores Perkins has a reputation of being "mean" and "scary" very few have seen her true colors. Many people have seen her drilling the band out on the football field but aren’t familiar with her funny and sweet side.

Ms. Perkins has been at BA since 1997. She started off as Mr. Micheal Harris’ assistant and eventually became the official BAnd director. She’s recognized for being loud and funny by those who know her. She can be heard from a mile away. Her voice is very distinctive.

There is a rumor that she may occasionally use off-color language but oh no…that can’t be true! She’s famous for her retro 1960’s tie-dye wardrobe. Other accessories include basketball shorts and athletic shoes.

The way she dresses and her distinctive voice aren’t the only things that make Ms. Perkins special. The amount of effort and dedication she invests into the BAnd is what truly makes her a remarkable teacher and individual. She spends countless hours at BA.

"I frequently work until after dark," says Mr Kastl, "but when I leave the building she is very often still here".

She goes days without spending time with her bird, Ratamacue. Even though he gets on her nerves she loves him much more than she says! Ms. Perkins is always open for opportunities for the school. Many people have asked the BAnd to perform for many occasions and she will never give a ‘no’ as a response. She books many gigs for the BAnd, sometimes even two in one day! Ms. Perkins is someone you can admire for how much dedication she puts into her career.

“When it comes to competition and motivating her students she knows what to do and say to make us stay on track,” says Junior percussionist, Cesar Vazquez.

She’s very understanding, she has an awesome personality, a great sense of humor and gives a tremendous amount of dedication to her career. She’s the type of person who you’d miss after you graduate.

Famous for her outrageous style and over-the-top personality Ms. Perkins maintains her youthful enthusiasm.
