New York, New York!

BA’s Tech Theater and Drama club’s traveled to New York City over spring break for five days. A total of twenty-one students went including some from Brownsboro High school. Brownsboro is a small town between Athens and Tyler.

Three teachers acted as chaperons, Ms. Irvine, Mrs. Malmberg, and Mrs. Hendrick from Brownsboro.

 

They also saw some other amazing places like The Empire State Building, Grand Central Station, 5th Ave.

 

Radiocity Music Hall is one of the most historic performance venues in the US is the Apollo Theater in Harlem. This famous music hall has witnessed some of the most famous performers in American music history. Among the greats to perform in the hall include Aretha Franklin, James Brown, Michael Jackson, The Supremes, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Elton John and Little Richard. The students were given a tour by “Mr. Apollo”, Billy Mitchell who has worked backstage for 35 years.

 

They also met a member of the Rocketts, a Precision dance company.

Other interesting and important site in the Big Apple included  Broadway and the 9/11 Memorial.

 

This city being so big and crowdede, the students had to walk the streets of NYC.

“The streets were filled with taxis and trucks,” said Junior Brandon Munselle.

 

Caleb Trevino noted the intense activity on the streets and in the city as a whole.

“The city was noisy so I guess that’s where it got its reputation as “The City That Never Sleeps,” he said.
