An Open House was held Wednesday, November 12th for members of the community, parents and future students to learn about clubs, organizations and programs at BA.

The halls were lined with the tables promoting various clubs and organizations. College recruiters were gathered in the cafeteria surrounded by intrigued students collecting information about their future schools.

Visitors to the Culinary Arts Department were served cookies and tea. They were able to learn about the Culinary Arts Program from the instructor, Ms. McCoy and the student cooks who were on hand to answer questions.

There was a lot of interaction between the visitors and the many clubs and organizations.

Mr. Brown’s new club “The Game Club” got a lot of attention. Members of the group were playing computer games while the game was projected on the wall.  Members of Mr. Johnson’s Future Business Leaders of America, “FBLA” wore had their fancy blazers while music drew people to their exhibit.

The Cheerleaders organized their table with posters and awards. The team wore their uniforms to be sure to show their school spirit. The Chess Club had several matches in progress allowing players to show off their skills on the board.

The Journalism Department was on hand the show off their work on the upcoming BA Yearbook, El Conquistador. The theme for this year’s book will be The New Classic and will be available in May 2015.

“The yearbook staff has worked really hard to create the best yearbook ever,” said Editor-in-Chief Stephanie Chheng, 12.

Senior Jazmin Barrios had three organizations to balance during Open House. She is captain of the Girls Tennis team and a member of FBLA and culinary arts. She managed to wear all the appropriate clothes at one time. She wore athletic clothes (tennis) under a blazer (FBLA) with an apron (culinary arts) covering the whole thing. She was seen running back and forth down every hallway talking to guests and encouraging people to stop by.

“It was ridiculous. I looked ridiculous. I would run back and forth in the hallway tripping over my own two feet,” said Jazmine.

Mr. Kastl, after welcoming parents and honored guests, could be seen first at one part of the school and then another always helping and promoting everything BA.

“Our students did an excellent job promoting our programs,” he said. “Their displays and genuine hospitality not only made all visitors feel at home, but they felt inspired to be a part of the Cougar Community.”
