Shadows cast

Middle schoolers find out what a day at BA is like

AVID students organized a “Shadow Day” on Wednesday, December 10th. The event allowed students from Hill, Gaston and a few other middle schools the opportunity to come to Bryan Adams and shadow AVID students.

The day began at 8:15 with the arrival of the middle and magnet schools. The students filed into the auditorium where Mr. Kastl gave his welcoming remarks and told the “shadows” what to expect for the day. Each student was assigned to an "Ambassador," that is, a student that currently attends BA.The students then followed their Ambassador's schedule for the first three classes of the day. The students did not receive any special treatment. They were expected to behave during the classes and had to do the same work including any tests or worksheets.

The students attended classes such as Pre-Calculus, Calculus, US History, Communication Applications, AP Government and Politics, AP English 3, Theatre Arts and more.

"Calculus was definitely the hardest,” said Steven Rodriguez of Gaston who shadowed Junior Jordan Baldomero. “The numbers and letters are EVERYWHERE."

After attending class with their Ambassadors the students gathered in the library where they received a presentation on the many pathways available to the class of 2019. After about 45 minutes they were released for lunch which they enjoyed with their Ambassador.

Junior Dibenhi Miramontes’ shadow from Gaston, Tatiana Rivers, seemed to like what she saw at BA and was looking forward to being a Cougar.

"People here are really nice. They actually care about your future and I like that there's so many different courses and programs to choose from," she said.

Most of the shadows said they were really looking forward to coming to BA and they couldn't wait to be a Cougar. Steven Rodriguez summed up the feeling of the day with a simple phrase that everyone could agree with.

"Go Cougars!"
