Teen Pregnancy

BY: TANIA ANCHETA

In 2016, teen parents tend to be looked down upon but in reality teen pregnancy brings on maturity and responsibility. A lot of girls face big challenges that causes them to grow up way earlier than the average teen. Many of these girls are told that they cannot continue to study or become successful. Statistics show something very different, in the last couple of years the percentage of teen parents graduating has gone up.

My personal experience was a hard one. Not only do teen moms struggle with school but sometimes their children can suffer from different illnesses or labor complications, like mine did. These and any many more things can contribute to postpartum depression and can cause teen moms to feel alone and clueless about what to do.

There are so many things that come with being a teen parent that I find it very cruel and upsetting that people can look down upon them. Despite it being hard, all teen parents can be successful. It takes hard work and dedication but it can be done. I am currently in the process of graduating and a clear example on how everything is possible.
