Guanajuato, Mexico is a state in central Mexico with a capital city of the same name. This historic city has many plazas, colonial-era mansions and churches. It is surrounded by the beautiful Sierra Madre Oriental Mountains and is located in a narrow valley. This makes the city streets narrow and winding. The buildings are very unique. They are built with a variety of architectural styles and painted with bright colorful designs.

I go to Leon, Guanajuato but I stay at a small ranch. Everybody knows each other since they all live close by in a small place.  It’s really fun going in the summer I can walk around to stores with my cousins and walk to the park and just hangout. When I go to the city with my family we walk around the streets many stores surrounded together they also have lots of foods stands.

In the city families often have their own little businesses in their homes.

“My grandma has a little store in her house she sells candy and food it’s really cool,” said Joceline Vasquez, 10.

One of Guanajuato City’s most famous attractions is the Museo de las Momias de Guanajuato which is the mummy museum .They were discovered in a cemetery while making the city. It is one of the biggest tourist attractions in Mexico.  Another famous place is in the center of the modern city. The Plaza de la Paz where the beautiful Basilica Colegiata de Nuestra Senora de Guanajuato dominates the view. It is a must see while in this city.

Many students at BA have a connection to Guanajuato.

“When I am in Guanajuato I go to San Cristobal, a suburb outside of the city, to visit my grandparents,” Ramon Cruz, 12.

Most students go to the region during summer vacation to visit relatives.

“I go to Selaya, Guanajuato it’s a fun nice place to get away in the summer.” Joselyn Romero, 12.

Flying to Guanajuato from DFW costs about $500 and takes 2hrs. Driving there would take about 22hrs.

The weather in Mexico is very nice. It doesn’t get as cold as Texas and neither as hot as you know Texas weather is crazy. In the summer the weather in Guanajuato feels great it’s sunny but there’s also wind and you feel very relaxed. If you want to get away from everything and just relax and hangout Guanajuato is a great place to visit if you are going on a vacation.
